Students in Ms. Sinkovich’s high school English classes are participating in a competition to read the most books as a class during the second nine weeks. The competition began on October 22 and will end on January 11, 2019. Currently, the freshman are in the lead with a total of 17 books, and 10th grade and 11th grade are tied for second place with 8 books read per class. Though seniors are in fourth place they have a leader in their class. Senior, Marisa Bolton, is taking full advantage of the competition and currently has a total of 5 books read, including three which are on the 2019 YSU English Festival book list. She highly recommends the author Steve Sheinkin, the author of two of the English Festival books this year: The Port Chicago 50: Disaster, Mutiny, and the Fight for Civil Rights and Undefeated: Jim Thorpe and the Carlisle Indian School Football Team. Of Sheinkin’s books, Marisa states, " I recommend both books because, they are very well written. They also make you question the moral integrity of the United States. Steve is really good at digging up unknown moments of history, and giving them attention. I could have gone an entire life without knowing of the Port Chicago story, if I hadn’t picked up this book." Keep up the great work readers!
